Pitwright is built to work without an account for core cooking features.
Local-first cook data
Your cook records, settings, custom rubs, and active cook session are stored in your browser or installed app storage. Cook photos are stored in IndexedDB on your device. Pitwright does not connect to a probe or smoker and does not receive temperature readings automatically; you enter each reading yourself while you cook, and the app builds your curve, alarms, and stage tracking from what you log.
If you clear browser data, uninstall the PWA, reset the device, or use a different browser, local records can be removed or unavailable. Pitwright includes an export in Settings that saves your cooks, stats, custom rubs, templates, and photos to a JSON file you keep; importing that file restores the record. There is no cloud sync or automatic remote backup.
Weather and license checks
Cook-day weather may use Open-Meteo to fetch forecast data. Open-Meteo does not require an API key from you.
If Pro or license activation is enabled later, Pitwright may contact a license provider through a Netlify function so private API keys stay off the device.
Command Pack purchases
Stripe hosts Command Pack checkout and processes payment information. Pitwright does not receive or store your full card number. Stripe provides Pitwright with purchase details needed to fulfill the order, including the checkout session, purchased item, payment status, and the email address entered at checkout.
Pitwright uses that information only to confirm the purchase, prevent duplicate delivery, email the purchased PDF, provide support, and maintain necessary transaction records.
Digital delivery
Purchased Command Pack PDFs are stored privately with Netlify. Pitwright uses Resend to email the purchased file to the address entered at checkout. Resend therefore receives that email address and the message attachment for delivery.
Pitwright records the Stripe checkout session, pack identifier, delivery status, delivery time, Resend message identifier, and a one-way hash of the customer email address. Full card details are not stored by Pitwright.
Analytics
Site and app analytics are handled separately.
Marketing-site analytics
This marketing site (pitwright.com) may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits, referral sources, page views, and site speed. The beacon is cookieless and reads no browser storage. Cloudflare, not Pitwright, sets the retention period for that data; blocking scripts from static.cloudflareinsights.com in your browser keeps the beacon from loading, which is the only opt-out available today.
App diagnostics and usage data
The Pitwright app (app.pitwright.com) collects a small set of anonymous, aggregate usage events to help find bugs and understand which features are used, for example that the app was opened, a cook was started or finished, the planner or cook log was opened, a backup was exported, or whether the notification permission was granted. Each event carries only the event name, a random install identifier not tied to any account or device ID, the app version, whether the session is web or the Android app, and, for a cook, the cut’s built-in category identifier (never a name you typed). Events are sent to Pitwright’s own server function; there is no third-party analytics vendor, no advertising network, and no cookies. Analytics is on by default and can be turned off any time in the app’s Settings, under “Anonymous usage analytics”; when it is off, no events are sent.
Affiliate reporting
Amazon Associates reports clicks and qualifying purchases after affiliate links go live. Pitwright does not receive a shopper’s Amazon account, cart, or payment details.
What is not collected
Your cook logs, notes, photos, meat details, custom rub names, weights, meal times, and temperature entries are never included in analytics, on the site or in the app. Pitwright does not use advertising trackers, cross-app identifiers, or device fingerprinting, and does not sell personal data.
No account required for core use
Core Pitwright use does not require creating an account, and your cook data is not sent to a remote profile. Buying a Command Pack requires an email address for payment confirmation and delivery, but it does not create a Pitwright account.
Your data, your control
Your cook content is yours. Export it any time from Settings, and delete it any time by clearing the cook log in the app or clearing your browser or app storage. Because cook data lives on your device, Pitwright has no way to delete or access it remotely.
